Queen Margaret University (QMU) has been ranked in the top 70% of universities in the world for 2021 by the QS World University Rankings, appearing in the list for the first time.

“This is owing, in large part, to the expansion in Queen Margaret’s offerings at our international partner institutions, such as Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management in Nepal and Metropolitan College in Greece,” said Sir Paul Grice, Principal and Vice-Chancellor.

Published by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, global higher education analysts, the QS World University Rankings, now in their 17th year, are perhaps the world's most-consulted, most-covered source of comparative information about university performance.

The rankings are determined based on data from:

  • an annual survey which evaluates the perceptions of academics from around the world regarding the best institutions in terms of research
  • views of employers around the world on the institutions providing the best professionals
  • staff/student ratio
  • citations per faculty
  • proportion of international faculty and international students
